Sprinkler System Getting Older? 3 Problems To Watch Out For

by Dan Mckinney

Having a sprinkler system is a great way to keep your lawn watered. If your sprinkler system is getting older, you should watch out for problems. This way, you can get them repaired before the problem becomes much worse. Keep reading so you won't have to purchase a new system.

Problem With Controller

The controller turns your sprinkler system on and off and is in charge of making sure the water is evenly applied to your lawn. It also controls how much water is used and activates all parts of the sprinkler system. Because of this, you can see how important the controller is. If it stops working, your entire sprinkler system will start having problems or may not work at all.

If you are noticing that your sprinkler system is having any of these problems, this is likely the cause. For example, it may turn on at the wrong time or may run longer than it is supposed to. A controller needs to be replaced by a professional, so contact a sprinkler repair company to do this for you.

Noisy Pump

If you hear noises coming from the pump, such as buzzing, this is generally caused by a problem with the relay system. This system is a switch that turns your sprinkler system on. You will notice sprinkler heads not turning on when the sprinkler system is running.

Just like the controller, it is difficult to replace a pump on your own. Contact a sprinkler repair company as soon as you notice the noise or you will have to replace the pump, which is much more costly.

Problems Popping Up

Another problem you can have with older sprinkler systems is sprinkler heads not popping up. This may happen with only one head, a few of them, or all of them may not pop up when the sprinkler system is turned on. If you are having this problem, the relay may not be working, or it could be coming from the controller. There may be mechanical issues with the pop-up mechanism.

There can be many other things that can cause this problem, which is why a sprinkler repair company should be called. They will inspect the system, determine the cause, and repair the system for you.

Other problems you may have with an older sprinkler system include low water pressure, clogged sprinkler heads, and problems with irrigation zones. A sprinkler repair company can go over these in much more detail.
